Alphonse Mucha was a Czech artist. He lived and studied in Paris during the Art Nouveau Period. From about 1890-1910, Art Nouveau was a popular style of design that featured graceful, flowing curves. It included decorative arts, architecture, jewelry, pottery, glass, and illustrations.
Mucha became an overnight Paris sensation when he created an Art Nouveau poster of actress Sarah Bernhardt. Copies of the life-sized illustration hung all over the streets of Paris and caused an immediate stir. Alphonse Mucha went on to become the most prolific illustrator of the period.
This coloring book features 24 detailed single-sided illustrations based on the the paths of ancient Labyrinths.
Labyrinths date back nearly 4,000 years. You can find them throughout the world, in many different cultures.
Unlike a maze, labyrinths have no dead-ends. Most feature a single circuitous pathway to the center. People use labyrinths as a kind of walking prayer, meditation, or a path to inner peace.
Many churches, hospitals, and private individuals have constructed labyrinths on their properties. Labyrinths carved in wood, known as “finger labyrinths,” have become a valuable aid to meditation practices.
